How to Reach Vaishno Devi Temple
- By Air
Jammu airport is the closest to Katra and is just 50 kilometres away. Jammu is connected to all major airports of India. It’s easy to get a cab from Jammu airport to Katra because there are regular taxis and cab services available.
- By Bus
Busses to and from Jammu to Katra operate at regular intervals between Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation. Private deluxe air-conditioned buses and taxis are also available from Jammu to Katra.
- By Train
The Udhampur railway station is the closest to Katra railway station. Taxis and cab services from Katra ‘s train station are available.
Do’s & Dont’s for Vaishno Devi Yatra
Firstly, get a Yatra slip from the Yatra registration counter near the Katra bus stand. You may get entry slip free of charge. Nobody can proceed beyond the Banganga check post without the Yatra slip.
Also if you would like to make use of the accommodation rental facility in Katra, Adkuwari, Sanjichhat or Bhawan, please book your room at the Niharika Complex ( near the bus stand) in Katra from the inquiry and booking counter.
Try to confirm the Porters, Ponies and Palanquins ‘ rates before hiring them and ensure that they have a valid registration card. Besides this please note their numbers before you entrust them with your valuables. Please don’t pay more than the rates approved ensure safekeeping of electronic items in Katra itself. Travel light by keeping all unnecessary luggage and clothes in Katra. Food, beverage and blankets available.
Please uphold the holiness of the pilgrimage and avoid loud clothes, language, offensive speech or gestures. Moreover, yatra is a path of faith don’t treat it as a picnic or a holiday trip.

Place your Coconuts against a token in the main waiting hall. During the Sanctum Sanctorum concentrate your attention on the Divine Mother’s Holy Pindies. Don’t raise slogans inside the cave as it disturbs other pilgrims. Do not offer jewellery or cash in front of the Holy Pindies. Deposit the same in the donation/jewellery boxes instead.
